Jim Shorkey Toyota of Greensburg

Mar 23, 2018

On Sunday, March 18th Team USA and Team Toyota’s Rico Roman brought home the gold medal during the closing day of Paralympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018. It will be the second gold medal that Roman has received during his time with the USA sled hockey team. Roman is a strong forward player for the team, but he wasn’t always making moves out on the ice. Roman is actually a retired United States Army Staff Sergeant and Purple Heart recipient. Having to have his left leg amputated above the knee when he was badly wounded by an IED during his third tour in Iraq in 2007. But Roman did not let his perseverance falter. He worked hard to train and compete in the Paralympic Games – all leading to his gold medal wins.

Roman speaks on his experience getting into the sled hockey game. Plus, why he felt like Team Toyota was a perfect fit for him thanks to the Toyota Tacoma. One big draw for him being the fact that not only can the Tacoma handle any kind of road conditions but also that it can handle a big bag of smelly hockey gear riding in the back as well. This makes the Tacoma a perfect fit for anyone who enjoys their freedom behind the wheel to get where they need to be with their gear safely stowed in the back. Roman exudes the Team Toyota spirit of “Let’s Go Places” because he isn’t afraid to go out of his comfort zone to achieve his goals.

Here at Toyota of Greensburg we’re proud to have Rico Roman representing the Toyota name and to have him on our team.
